If you’re interested in a trip down memory lane, we’ve put together a few reasons to visit the Manitoba Museum this summer:
Body Worlds: Animal Inside Out
Recently opened at the museum, this travelling exhibit explores skeletal foundations, muscles, tendons and ligaments, internal circuit of the nervous system, breathing and eating, the birds and the bees and wildlife conversation and preservation with over 100 plasticized specimens. The exhibit gives you an inside look (literally) at the world’s tallest mammal, the giraffe and features a rarely seen giant squid and a magnificent bull.
Animal Inside Out is part of the Body Worlds exhibitions created by Dr. Gunther von Hagens and Dr. Angelina Whalley. The exhibitions have been seen by more than 47 million visitors across 130 cities around the world and we’re incredibly lucky to have this exhibit in Winnipeg for the summer.
Animal Inside Out will be in Winnipeg until September 2, 2019 and is included in all admissions.
Strike 1919: Divided City
2019 is the 100-year anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike. The Strike, taking place in Downtown Winnipeg, was the largest strike involving over 30,000 workers and shut the city down on May 15, 1919 for 40 days.
Using digital architectural projections of strike scenes, authentic artifacts from the Strike, photographs, archival interviews with Strike participants and audio creations of “discussions,” the old town, or Urban Gallery (its official name), has been transformed back to 1919.
The Strike 1919 exhibit will run until January 5, 2020 and is included in all admissions.
From Talk to Table
What could be better than a guided tour through the Manitoba Museum followed by a stop at a local brewery?
Throughout the year, the Manitoba Museum offers tours for small groups featuring different exhibits at the museum. Following the tour, guests are invited to join an expert in a related field at Nonsuch Brewing Co. – very fitting – for refreshments and an informal discussion about the exhibit.
Catch the next From Talk to Table: The Inside of a Modern Zoo featuring the Body Worlds: Inside Out exhibit on Saturday, May 25. Tickets are $21 and available here.
Winnipeg Chamber After Business Mixer
Among the exciting things happening over the next few months at the Manitoba Museum, our next After Business Mixer will take place in the atrium on Wednesday, June 12.
If you love networking, delicious appetizers and learning about other Chamber member businesses, then this is a great opportunity for you to join us! The Manitoba Museum has also graciously offered to open the Strike 1919: Divided City exhibit after-hours for all in attendance.
Members are invited to set-up a booth ($175 +GST) to showcase their business or products. Each mixer sees about 300 people through the door and is free to attend.
