The Community Leadership & Impact Conference (CLIC), hosted by the United Way, aims to bring together corporate leaders with United Way’s global network of community impact executives and board leaders to harness collective resources in the fight for stronger communities around the world.

The conference was held in Toronto over May 1-3, and The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce was pleased to be able to attend and participate.

Executive vice president Alana Cuma spoke on the second day of the conference during a ‘breakout session’ called TRC# 92: Fostering Youth Employment through Community and Business Partnerships.

The session incorporated the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council’s innovative, cross-sectoral initiative called TRC92: Youth Employment, which aims to bring together the business community, indigenous youth seeking jobs, and community organizations training youth for the workforce, to engage in a truth and reconciliation-based journey of learning, relationship building and social innovation.

Cuma, alongside the Winnipeg Poverty Reduction Council’s executive director Pam Sveinson, discussed how, at almost two years into the collaborative effort, participants are actively engaged and committed to moving forward together to identify challenges, co-create innovative solutions, and implement meaningful and sustainable systems change that will result in real impact for communities.

“The opportunity to share the important work happening right here Winnipeg to a global audience was tremendously important,” Cuma says. “It was a chance to engage with a powerful and impactful network of individuals also committed to bettering their communities. Many were not familiar with Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s work and were eager to learn more about the Calls to Action.”
