On December 7, 2016 the employer phase of the 2017 Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) was launched. Applications from employers seeking Government of Canada funding to hire students will be accepted until January 20, 2017.
Two new priorities include the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, and Communications Technology (ICT) sectors and small businesses, so I am sharing this with you in order to reach your stakeholders who could benefit from this program.
Under the CSJ program public-sector employers and small businesses with up to 50 employees can receive up to 50 percent of the provincial/territorial minimum hourly wage to hire summer students, while not-for-profit employers can receive up to 100 percent.
In the CSJ 2017 program, along with local priorities, employers are encouraged to come forward with applications that support and complement five national priorities:
- employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;
- employers that hire Indigenous people;
- opportunities in STEM and ICT sectors;
- employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation; and
- small businesses working to become more innovative, competitive and successful, in recognition of their key contribution to the creation of new jobs.
