Help United Way give hope this new year

December 3, 2019
The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with United Way Winnipeg to offer a special 50/50 raffle fundraiser, with all proceeds from the ticket sales supporting United Way’s programs and initiatives to combat homelessness.

“A vibrant business climate can only exist within a healthy community,” says Loren Remillard, president and CEO of The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce. “Since 1965, the United Way of Winnipeg has been a driving force in building our neighbourhoods, our communities and our city. Unfortunately, far too many Winnipeggers continue to struggle with poverty and homelessness. During the holiday season and beyond, as we think of gifts for family and friends, let us remember the power of giving back to our community and those most in need.  Let us think of the United Way and its impact on our shared home.”

Some of the organizations you’ll be supporting with your donation include:

The fundraiser is being held in conjunction with The Winnipeg Chamber’s annual State of the City Address with Mayor Brian Bowman, who is a passionate advocate for the social issues of poverty of homelessness in his hometown of Winnipeg.

”I’ve been very passionate about making Winnipeg a more inclusive city, one that aims to remove barriers for all Winnipeggers,” Bowman says. “For Winnipeg to truly become a Winnipeg for all, we have to look at ways to give those in need a helping hand up. We accomplished a lot but we have much, much more work to do and I encourage all Winnipeggers to play a part.

“The United Way is one of Winnipeg’s most important charitable organizations. This holiday season, I encourage Winnipeggers to consider making a donation because the United Way is the largest non-governmental funder of the volunteer sector and social services in the entire country. They’ve been a strong partner on a number of initiatives, including the United Way’s Plan to End Homelessness and are doing great work across our community.”
