Spirit Award Winner- Where are they now?
On Friday, June 17th we will be hosting our 13th annual Spirit of Winnipeg Awards– one of our business community’s most highly anticipated events– where together we will celebrate local businesses who make Winnipeg better.
We are currently in search of this year’s finalists and think you would be great! Find out more about our categories, exclusive finalist perks and how you can be a part of a night to remember HERE.
But what does it mean to be a Spirit of Winnipeg Award finalist or winner? We caught up last year’s Non-Profit and Social Enterprise winner, Rossbrook House, to let them answer that question, and to see what they’ve been up to since winning their award!
ROSSBROOK HOUSE FOUNDATION
2021 Non-Profit and Social Enterprise Winner
What was the significance of being recognized with this award? What did it mean to you or to the organization?
Rossbrook House was honoured to be the recipient of the 2021 Spirit of Winnipeg’s Non-profit and Social Enterprise Award. This recognition helped to reaffirm the good works of Rossbrook House and confirm that Winnipeg’s larger community recognizes and appreciates what Rossbrook House does.
Why do you feel the Spirit of Winnipeg Awards are an important event for Winnipeg’s business community?
The Spirit of Winnipeg Awards celebrates, honours, and inspires; and these three things are imperative for our community now more than ever.
When informed that Rossbrook House was a finalist, we were asked who we wanted to inspire. Through this award, Rossbrook House wanted to inspire all those living in Winnipeg to recognize the strength and resiliency of young people living in our inner-city. We also wanted to encourage everyone to move beyond their comfort zones and find creative and practical ways to be involved in making Winnipeg a city where all can thrive.
How has your organization grown from the time that you won the award until now?
Rossbrook House is once again holding the fun and engaging programs, activities and outings that make Rossbrook House a place children and youth want to be part of. Activities that promote (from the Circle of Courage) – belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. All while ensuring a safe space, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
What would you say to businesses who are on the fence about applying?
Go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Rossbrook House is extremely grateful for the opportunity to build awareness of Rossbrook House, that being a finalist and recipient of the 2021 Spirit of Winnipeg’s Non-profit and Social Enterprise Award granted. These opportunities allowed Rossbrook House to get in front of new individuals, leading to an increase in supporters and advocates.
What’s next for your organization?
Rossbrook House is looking forward to restarting and welcoming the community to our events. Events like our annual spring Pow Wow and fall Open House, both complimentary events celebrating the community and its members. Stay tuned to rossbrookhouse.ca and our social media platforms to stay up to date on these events.
Executive Director, Phil Chiappetta is retiring in September and the search has started for the future leader of Rossbrook House.
Rossbrook House and Green Action Centre have teamed up with the Depave Paradise project to remove the concrete in front of Rossbrook House and plant a beautiful garden/green space.
