According to a survey by the World Economic Forum on Global Outlook, a startling 86% of respondents to the Survey on the Global Agenda agree that we have a leadership crisis in the world today.
“Leadership capacity is the top human capital challenge in Manitoba today,” says Debra Jonasson-Young, Director of the Executive Education Centre at the Asper School of Business. “Leadership is becoming more complex. The speed of change from technology to societal changes requires organizations to have strong senior leaders.”
The Conference Board of Canada determined in a 2016 survey that Leadership Development was an imperative and strategic differentiator. “Educational programs, coaching, and personal development tools such as 360-degree assessments are instrumental in developing effective leadership,” confirmed Jonasson-Young.
“Leadership shortage is both a quantity and quality issue,” notes Jonasson-Young. “The flattening of organizations over the last few decades has led to a loss of incremental leadership development opportunities. Employees used to slowly progress from junior positions through increasing levels of responsibilities. We are now seeing employees jumping into management roles without having had the opportunity to fully develop their leadership skills.”
The Executive Education Centre at the Asper School of Business has developed the Advanced Program in Management, Leadership, & Strategy certificate to help alleviate this leadership shortage. “We will be reaching a milestone of 500 graduates in 2018 for our Advanced Program.” Jonasson-Young further stated, “Manitoba’s business community has been very supportive of our executive training. Our program has helped many businesses transform their leadership and organizational structure.”The Advanced Program in Management, Leadership, & Strategy is a 10-day certificate program and is a unique experiential learning program that enhances leadership skills and introduces best practices in strategy and management.
