#WCCBains: October Luncheon Event Wrap-Up

October 17, 2018
Canada’s Innovation Minister met with the Winnipeg business community on Oct. 10 at The Fairmont Winnipeg at our October Luncheon. The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, shared details of his government’s innovation agenda with a crowd of over 400 during an extended fireside chat.

Bains, informally known as the ‘Minister of Everything,’ shared his personal take on the newly signed USCMA (formerly known as NAFTA) and emphasized his priority to collaborate with industry to develop a long-term plan to improve Canada’s competitiveness globally.

The Chamber luncheon followed his announcement of $10 million in federal funding for Manitoba’s aerospace industry during his visit to the Composites Innovation Centre.

3 KEY TAKE-AWAYS FROM #WCCBAINS:

1. Ambition
We need high level of ambition to succeed. Industries need to be as innovative as ever and lead the way, while government needs to create the environment for you to succeed.

2. Collaboration
Industries need to come together to grow and break down silos. The magic happens when different sectors come together to talk about common problems.

3. Canada as the Data Capital
The biggest economic opportunity for Canada is data. From monetizing to better decision-making, Canada has the potential to be a global leader in data.
