Our 2016 Gala celebrates 20 years of innovation and leadership in chronic disease management and prevention. As part of our celebration, we will be honoring Dr. Kevin Saunders, a noted family physician and one of the founders of the Wellness Institute. He is a longstanding advocate of “exercise is medicine” and oversees the medical team at Wellness Institute.
A little over 20 years ago, Seven Oaks General Hospital opened the Wellness Institute. Today, the Wellness Institute is world renowned with over 6500 members and 450,000 visits per year. In addition, Wellness Institute’s contributions to the local economy including exporting expertise to China are notable accomplishments.
We have recently opened our Chronic Disease Innovation Centre (CDIC) to support our world leading researchers/kidney specialists who are receiving global recognition for their work. With the CDIC we will continue to lead the way to:
* Improve the health and well-being of our patients and those across Manitoba
* Spur innovation that reduces healthcare costs
* Bring new healthcare products and technologies to market
* Provide local, national and international reach
Manitoba has the highest rates of kidney disease and diabetes in Canada. 1 in 10 Manitobans will have chronic disease by 2020. Last year, we raised over $170,000 to support the important programs and life changing research happening right here at Seven Oaks General Hospital.
